Headspace Geraldton

Update on "Headspace" in Geraldton

Guest Speaker Fiona Stewart: (intro by Clark Scarff) – The manager of headspace Geraldton Fiona is a mental health and social worker who has spent time in Vic, NT and WA. Did Outdoor Education for ten years. Has a Masters’ degree in Social Work. Her partner if GGRC member Luke Bailey.

 

TWO MAJOR POINTS:

  1. Geraldton headspace would like to find more employment opportunities for regional youth. It is a leading component of mental health issues.

  2. Geraldton headspace would like a small caravan (or similar) that could be used to take on the road to local shows and events.

  3. headspace G’ton provides 12-25 y.o’s with mental health intervention programs

  4. most clinical issues have developed in first 25 years

  5. the population in Geraldton needs a service such as headspace

  6. the Pilbara is trialling a travelling service delivery program. We need one in Mid West

  7. permanent facilities, like buildings, must look appropriate to attract those who want help

  8. headspace Geraldton provides doctors, vocational advice, drug & alcohol advice, clinical advice and involves family members

  9. Geraldton headspace is at capacity

  10. Would like more staff but doesn’t have the financial capacity to employ them

  11. Working in suicide prevention but not funded or staffed for this role
