Modeling the bags! | Boomerang Bags |
Rob Houwen introduced Jo Bunker, a well known Geraldton identity, who has been involved in volunteer organisations for many years. Jo is involved in Boomerang Bags, a not for profit grassroots, community driven movement, tackling plastic pollution at its source.Worldwide, it has 708 communities underway, has diverted 62,000 kgs of waste from landfill and made 205,603 bags. In Geraldton, the community has 10/15 women who have made over 2500 bags for the community. The concept is to use the cloth bag instead of plastic, and return the re-usable bag to its source to be used by someone else. Geraldton Fruit and Veg are a local outlet. The group received a grant from Bendigo Bank in 2017 and has space at the Geraldton Residential College for a workroom and storage facility. The ladies either work from the GRC or home. |
Businesses and households are urged to become more aware of reducing the use of plastic. SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS IN GERALDTON. More information on the website: boomerangbags.org Questions/comments were received from Dan, (Can they use 5 Carlton jumpers for bags ??), Councillor Bylund, (Council has a motion on the books to ban/reduce plastics). Rob Houwen, (Story on the amount of plastic found in a whale) Thanks were delivered by Bluey Muir, convenient for World Environment Week. |
