Geraldton Regional Library

Guest Speaker Trudi Cornish introduced by Terry Stewart

Trudi Cornish has worked for various local government and not-for-profit organisations over the last 30 years.  Trudi is a qualified Librarian with degree qualifications in both Information Science and Community Development.  Trudi is currently employed as Manager Libraries, Heritage and Gallery at the City of Greater Geraldton where she manages the Library and Art Gallery.  Prior to arriving in Geraldton with her family in 2010, Trudi worked for the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, followed by the Kalgoorlie Aboriginal Medical Service.  Trudi is a keen local historian and family history researcher.  Trudi, her husband, and her 3 grown-up kids all enjoy calling Geraldton home.

The Geraldton Library opened in July 1968 next to the Council buildings in Cathedral Avenue. It became a Regional Library in 1979, providing advice and support to 26 Libraries throughout the Mid -West Region. In 2010, the Library moved to its new premises at 37 Marine Terrace, the site of a former supermarket.

The Geraldton Regional Library and the Mullewa Public Library have a combined collection of more than 46,000 items, not including the 67,000 physical items which make up the Local Studies Collection.

Modern Libraries today are more than just books, and Geraldton is no exception. It is a meeting place for groups, from Mums and babies, to the elderly looking for peace and quiet! It is a place for wifi and internet access, and educational space for children, and holds considerable heritage information on Geraldton and the Midwest.  It is also the venue for the Randolf Stow Young Writer's Awards.

Trudi was unable to present the two heritage videos, but they can be viewed from a web link. The links are too long to fit on this page so I will paste separately.

(I watched both, they are a facinating insight into times past and particularly things lost from Geraldton.-ed)
