Guest Speaker Aiden McDowell: Works at the Cancer Council as a Regional Education Officer for the Mid West/Gascoyne. He works with local agencies, workplaces, schools and communities to promote and advocate for evidenced based healthy lifestyle choices and improve cancer prevention through systematic changes in policy and practice. Aiden grew up in Geraldton and has moved back to work at the Cancer Council after been away for 16 years. He has a Master of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion. He has spent around 6 years living in Europe and most recently working for an Aboriginal Health Organisation in Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley. He has enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, old sporting clubs and the beach just out his back door and since returning to Geraldton and he is passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles. •Prostate •Breast •Skin •Bowel •Lung 2.Help people to overcome the barriers and excuses for seeking help, and tell their doctor, clinic nurse or Aboriginal health worker without delay. WHAT TO DO Know your body: •If you know what is normal for you, it’ll be easier to notice when something’s different. Don’t make excuses: •For your symptoms. •For delaying a visit to your doctor. Participate in screening programs if you’re eligible and have no symptoms. Full details of the powerpoint presentation will be emailed to members.
