Peace Pole Project

A story from the current “Rotary down under”!

The recent edition features an article on the Rotary Peace Pole.  The Rotary Peace Pole initiative is a Rotary Down Under project to celebrate the Centenary of Rotary in Australia     The original Target to see 100 Peace Poles donated to schools around Australia will be achieved! ( more info on Peace Poles is available by emailing:  admin@canberrarotarypeacebell.org )

Peace Pole 100 of 100 was recently unveiled in Canberra at a celebration dinner of HARMONY DAY in the presence of their Excellencies Governor-General David Hurley and Mrs. Hurley and many members of the Canberra Multicultural Community. In his address the Governor-General said that QUOTE:

“Australia’s diversity is one of our greatest strengths and that Harmony Week is a celebration of that diversity. The week is an opportunity to recognize that we are at our best when we are inclusive and respect one another.”

Authors comment:      During recent weeks showing respect for each other ( and particularly women)  has been at the forefront of most Media presentations and shows no sign of abating.

There is an opportunity for Rotary to sponsor an annual achievement award which recognizes School Excellence in promoting INCLUSIVITY and RESPECT at School and in our Community.

There is a problem here and we should discuss it.

Think about it.

And YES ..it is time to wish  everyone HAPPY EASTER HOLIDAYS !!

Safe Travels!!   Keep safe on the roads..and if you are down Busselton way call in at Bistro Breton for a delightful French breakfast or a tasty lunch.   Coco Thai is just a few doors along Queen Street and is sure to tantalise your dinner taste buds!        Shelters boutique Brewery is right down by the jetty and you should enjoy authentic Italian Pizza with your choice of beer.   The Brewery is a great addition to the shorefront and will only get better.     And there’s more…..the Visitor Centre has now been moved from the other side of town to just next door to the Jetty…where the tourists are!  What a clever idea.    I sometimes wonder if our Mayor ever gets out of town to discover how the “Other Half” live and makes things happen”!!

And Easter is always a good time to say “Thank You” to that other person in your life!!
