CBH in Geraldton and the Midwest |
Guest Speaker Duncan Gray GM Cooperative Bulk Handling Geraldton Zone. Duncan has been with CBH for 33 years, the last 16 in Geraldton. Edited Highlights: This season in WA CBH is expecting a harvest of close to 20m tonnes, which will be a record. CBH recently moved from Watco to Aurizon re trains. A big and well publicized move. Can only ship 55,000 tonnes per vessel out of Geraldton on high tide. A significant limitation. There is 3.1m tonnes storage capacity in the Geraldton zone. This year expecting nearly 3.0m tonne of wheat. Possible record amount of canola which is currently valued at $1,000 per tonne. |
Geraldton Port Canola has storage challenges. Generally needs sealed storage. CBH has recently invested $230m in infrastructure across WA. Challenges this season in particular will be sourcing and looking after workers; trucks available to deliver harvest; chemical residues in crop; rail contracts. All expenses for CBH are fully funded by growers. Questions from Ian Taylor, Ian Johnston, Jim Dillon, Grant Woodhams, Laurie Dines, Kim Stokes, Douglas Bruce. An endorsement of a great presentation and interested members!
